Combined Battery Charger and Inverter in a Compact Unit

An Inverter Charger serves two main purposes. To charge the battery when AC power is available and to convert 12V DC current into 110V AC current when AC power is required but shore power is not available.

Boundless recommends and installs Victron Energy Inverter Chargers.

In Charger Mode

In charge mode the charger has two modes for a lithium battery, bulk and float. Bulk mode is used when the battery needs to be charged. Float mode is used when the battery is fully charged to maintain a low (float) level of current into the battery to approximately balance the current used to maintain the battery close to 100% charged.

In Inverter Mode

The MultiPlus is a true sine wave inverter suitable for sensitive electronic such as laptops and robust enough for larger loads. When the MultiPlus is operating in Inverter mode, the battery will generate AC power up to its power rating to support AC loads.

PowerControl - Dealing with Limited Generator or Shore Power

The MultiPlus is a very powerful battery charger. It will therefore draw a lot of current from the generator or shore power connection (nearly 20A for a 3kVA MultiPlus on 120VAC). With the MultiPlus control panel, Color Control GX or VE.Bus Smart Dongle, a maximum generator or shore power current can be set. The MultiPlus will then take account of other AC loads and use whatever is extra for charging, thus preventing the generator or shore power from being overloaded.

Similarily, even if not charging, PowerControl will limit AC power draw from a generator or shore power and supplement with PowerAssist as needed to meet demands unto the rating of the Mu

PowerAssist - Boosting the Capacity of Shore or Generator power

This feature takes the principle of PowerControl one step further. It allows the MultiPlus to supplement the capacity of the alternate source. When peak power is so often required for a limited period, the MultiPlus will make sure that insufficient shore or generator power is immediately compensated for by power from the battery. When the load reduces, the spare power is used to charge the battery. This enables a relatively small generator to run a single air conditioners using battery power assistance.

Setting Configuration and Remote Monitoring

Settings in the MultiPlus are configured using a Mk3 dongle, see accessories.

The MultiPlus can be controlled and monitored via (VRM) if connected to a GX Touch and Cerbo.
To make full use of the VRM an internet connection is required. Read more about remote Monitoring here.
